As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I have a little advantage that I want to share with you. I have raised 7 children without owning a thermometer, band aids, antibiotic ointment, or antibiotics. We have had chickenpox, hand foot and mouth, covid, fever, etc. We live in the country and have animals so we have delt with a LOT of barbed wire cuts, rust nail puncture wounds, metal cuts, thorn bushes, old wood splinters, and so much more. One of our sons actually was hanging from our barbed wire fence by his leg once. It has been fun and crazy. I have been very blessed to have been able to use simple items that are what I consider my first aid kit. Very inexpensive and common items that will treat just about anything that happens. Here is a simple example of my essentials and when to use them...

  • Tea Tree Oil......any time the skin is broken. We do not put band aids on the cuts or wounds, we simply put tea tree oil on it and let it air out, even large cuts. We treat wounds with tea tree oil multiple times. We also use Tea Tree Oil on any type of infection on the skin. I have used it to treat brown recluse spider bites on two of my daughters.

  • DMSO....bug bites, sore muscles, joint pain or aches. Very cheap and works very well. We use it on scorpion stings, and the pain is gone almost instantly.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar......any congestion. We use the pills, the liquid is just not an option for most children. Apple cider vinegar will clear congestion from the lungs and chest. I do like to use it and NAC together but if we are out of NAC (which we tend to be) we just use ACV.

  • Vitamin D.....Winter! This is a must for us in the winter. If you live in an area where you can not get adequate sun, vitamin D is simply essential for mental and physical health.

  • Wash cloth......Fever, yes, I am serious. As I mentioned earlier, I do not own a thermometer there is no reason for it. When the children run a fever, it is the way God designed the body to heal. We simply let it run its course. If the child is very hot I make sure the room is cool (not cold) and use a cool cloth to help ease the discomfort of the heat. Sometimes I will run a room temperature bath for them. I also keep sugar free organic popsicles that they get to enjoy to help easy the discomfort of the heat and cool drinks.
